In 2003, the United Nations Secretary-General issued a Bulletin on “Special measures for protection from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse” (ST/SGB/2003/13) (“the Bulletin”). To support system-wide implementation of the zero- tolerance policy, EiC Executive Director on August 14, 2024 decided to adopt the standards of conduct and provisions on PSEA set by the Bulletin, adjusted as necessary, to be applied by Education in Crisis personnel. EiC has a zero tolerance for sexual exploitation and abuse and will not tolerate its staff, associates, partners or any other representatives associated with the delivery of its work to engage in any form of sexual exploitation or abuse. EiC is committed to protecting all communities that the organization works with from sexual exploitation and abuse at all times. Please see definitions for a full outline who is included in the community.
This policy ensures that all EiC staff, associates, and partners are aware of their role and responsibilities in keeping communities and stakeholders safe from any form of sexual exploitation or abuse. The policy clarifies definitions and responsibilities regarding prohibited behaviour and the associated PSEA procedures outline the reporting and investigation processes. Education in Crisis (EiC) is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in safeguarding the rights and dignity of all individuals we serve.
As part of this commitment, EiC has fully endorsed the statement by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee issued and has developed a Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Policy, which outlines our zero-tolerance approach to SEA, our reporting mechanisms, and survivor-centered support systems.
This policy is designed to:
✔ Prevent and respond to sexual exploitation and abuse.
✔ Establish clear reporting procedures that are safe, confidential, and accessible.
✔ Hold perpetrators accountable through robust investigative and disciplinary measures.
✔ Support survivors through locally available psychosocial, medical, and legal services.
✔ Promote continuous training and awareness for EiC personnel and associated partners.
